Free Alan Johnson
Friends of Al-Aqsa supports the demonstrations and protests taking place within the West Bank and Gaza demanding the release of BBC journalist Alan Johnson.
On Saturday 7 April 2007, Palestinian media personnel and journalists staged protests against the suspected kidnapping and called for the release of Mr Johnson, who went missing on 12 March 2007. There has been no news of his whereabouts.
Chair of Friends of Al-Aqsa, Ismail Patel stated: Israels restrictions on press freedoms within the occupied territories has made it impossible for fair reporting on the events taking place there. Alan Johnson was the only international journalist still living in Gaza and this kidnapping goes totally against the Palestinians cause. We call for his immediate release.
The protests on Saturday took place in every major Palestinian city including Ramalla, Nablus, Jenin and Gaza City. Thousands of people around the world have also signed the BBC online petition demanding Alan Johnsons release.
