Duwaik declares: Palestinian factions approved national document

Gaza – Dr. Aziz Duwaik, the PLC speaker, announced on Tuesday that the Palestinian factions in Gaza had endorsed the national consensus document that was first tabled by the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Hadarim jail.

The speaker in a press release said that the document was initialled by all factions with a number of them expressing reservations on certain points.

The final draft would be tabled with the PA chief, Mahmoud Abbas, Tuesday evening before its official announcement to the media., Duwaik elaborated.

For his part, Saleh Zeidan, politburo member of the DFLP, said that the Palestinian factions would sign the document on Tuesday.

He told reporters that the national dialogue committee would hold a meeting this afternoon to put the final touches to the draft document that would be signed in the presence of Abbas and premier Ismail Haneyya.

Palestinian sources said that the secretaries general of all Palestinian factions are expected to meet on 9th July to start practical steps to activate the PLO in its capacity as one of the prerequisites of the national consensus.
